Meet Our Staff

Introducing Garry Winebarger - our new Executive Director

Greetings from Youth For Christ (YFC) from our new office at 214 Myrover Street. I am Garry Winebarger, and I have recently accepted the call to be the executive director of our local YFC.

In the future, I will write to you about the youth in Fayetteville and our ministry amongst them, but in this letter, let me introduce you to my family. My wife and I are N.C. natives, met at UNC-CH and have been married for 32 years. We spent the first eight years of our marriage in Raleigh, and the remainder in Fayetteville, while I was a businessman and Lynn was a homemaker. We have three grown sons in Virginia. Our oldest, Wesley, and his wife, Alexcia, live in Roanoke, where he serves as a Worship Pastor, and Alexcia works at a veterinarian clinic. They are expecting their first child in May. Our middle son, Kevin, and his wife, Jessica, live in Lynchburg, where he is a Christian music songwriter and music teacher, and Jessica is a Christian counselor. Our youngest, Clayton, is a junior at Liberty University.

Lynn and I have been very active with a number of ministries and non-profits. Most of my ministry has been with children, which is my passion. I have taught preschool Sunday School for 15 years, served six years on the YMCA board, served 3 years on the Child Advocacy Center board, served one year on the FTCC Foundation board, served approximately 10 years on the Fayetteville Christian School board, served three years in the gardening and mentoring programs at Great Oak Youth Development Center, substitute taught for two years at Fayetteville Christian School, and served for 16 years in the Kiwanis Club of Fayetteville, which has several programs designed to improve the lives of children.

When Dr. Ed Newman asked if I would consider becoming the executive director of YFC, I told him I would have to consider it since I love the Lord and I love children. I spent a great deal of time researching YFC nationally, regionally, and locally, and I was impressed with what they were doing. I was even more impressed by the potential here in Fayetteville. During a day of prayer and fasting, the Lord confirmed that I was to answer this call. If our Christian community will support this ministry through prayer, volunteering, and giving, I believe that YFC could transform Fayetteville by transforming our youth. I will share my hopes and dreams with you in the future. Until then, please pray that God will accomplish His desires in the hearts of our youth, raise up more volunteers, and provide financially for all He has planned. If He prompts you to give to support this ministry, all contributions are tax deductible.

May God richly bless your family in 2017.
